I'm looking to pick up a StroboFrame Pro-T or Press-T. Using a 20D with 17-55/2.8, will I end up getting the grip in my frame @ 17mm? Thanks...

I'm pretty sure I've used my Pro-T with that lens and the Canon 40D with no problems. (Normally I use it with a 1D MKII and different lenses.) Actually I know I have used it that way for a Boy Scout function. It just takes me a little while to remember sometimes.

    <Sigh of relief...> Thanks! :D

Just received my used Press-T from an eBayer - looks to be in good shape. I see now that my question on worrying about the WA lens was silly - the lens pokes out further than the grip handle! Things always seem so much bigger on the interwebz.

OK, so I have a few more questions. I'm a novice with this bracket, so apologies in advance if my questions are dumb.

#1 - My used bracket no longer has the cork padding on the top of the baseplate, as you see below (img from B&H). I'm planning to pick up an anti-twist plate from B&H, but will I need anything in addition? When I mounted the frame to my camera last night ("naked" - no cork, no anti-twist), the mounting screw bottomed out in my 20D's tripod mount, leaving significant play between the body and the frame. As in freely rotating.

#2 - I also do not have the little screw thing shown in the picture above. Is this for mounting the flash cable's shoe to the frame? Will my flash cable come with one (I've ordered the off-brand Dot Line from eBay), or will I need to purchase something? Or is there something from my local hardware store that would work just as well?

#3 - Seriously - don't laugh at me. My used frame was the obvious former property of a smoker. Any suggestions on de-smoking it? The foam grip is the most obvious.

Thanks for your help. I want to understand what little accessories I'm going to need, so I can hopefully avoid multiple shipping charges eating into the value of buying used. :D

No, the anti-twist plate will be sufficient ... in fact that's how I used it while I was using it (Canon 20D, 17-55, etc).

That wing-nut is used to mount the hot-shoe extension cord to the flash rotator arm. In the picture your referenced, you can see it in the right inset photo. This actually appears to be more robust than the Canon version, which has the threads in molded plastic rather than the metal I see there.thumb.gif You can replace that wing-nut with a standard 1/4" x 20 (I think those are the specifications) bolt of some sort. Take your cord to the hardware store and see what you can find.

Dish soap and water, then a good going over with a hair dryer (or set it in the sun for a while to let the water evaporate) and some small amount of oil at the moving joints - maybe?
