    I like the composition and the use of B&W. What I'd like to see different is a more defined subject. Like the reeds themselves. Maybe leave the fore and backgrounds a little OOF so that our eye is drawn to the subject.

    This photo evoked a sense of calm and sadness - a very effective photo indeed. thumb.gif

    As to the blurring - that could be achieved in post with a blur layer and a good layer mask with a nice soft gradient (maybe?). If done carefully, it could work quite nicely.
