Hi y'all,

After a series of scheduling conflicts and bad weather I finally made it up to St Augustine this week to visit the rookery at the Alligator Farm. :barb

I can think of a better place to visit during
EGRET FEST

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Thanks Joel. I was real happy to catch the egret in that pose with that kind of sky as a bacjground.

Nice set of pics H. thumb.gif Is the place going to be jumpin' next month...say on the 5th ? headscratch.gif I've been invited to join a couple of old guys...like yourself to shoot the "farm" then. Wondering if it's worth the trip all the way up there and the $$$$. Compared to Gatorland... better..about the same....or just different ? Do they have nesting ospreys ? eek7.gif:D

Thanks Mike. The joint will be jumping through the beginning of June.

Its definitely worth a visit. I have always favored the farm over Gatorland. The subjects are pretty much the same. I think the farm has better light, shooting angles, and backgrounds. St. Augustine is about a two hour drive for me compared to the hour drive to Orlando but I always drive the extra hour to get to St Augustine.

They don't have nesting ospreys though.

Thanks Harry. Looks like I should be visiting the "farm" on the 5th. Not looking forward to the long drive. Will make it a 3 day adventure and hit Gatorland on the way up and the Jacksonville zoo as well. I'll keep AN EYE open for you incase you are there.

All of them are great Harry.

The colors and textures in 5 are fantastic, and if I could get a shot like number 2, I could die a happy man.
One of these days I'm going to get to Florida.

Your rookery images came out fine. Thanks for your comments and the GBH is actually a tri-color heron in its breeding colors.

Thanks and you would find those great egret chicks to be adorable if you have ever seen the tric-color heron chicks. The tri-color chicks are just plain evil.

    Very nice captures Harry thumb.gif

It was worth the two hour drive up there to get those great looking shots. Well, at least worth it to us. After all, you did the four hours of driving and we got to see the cream of the crop.
