I just received my new lens for the D90. :clap:ivar

Experimenting with the settings, these are the first picture.
The lens feels good in the hand but is quiet heavy.
I used the auto focus in AF-C to snap insects on the move.
Suggestions are most welcome.

This one I took with the tripod, and no extra light. (Vr off)
(the ring belongs to e client)

The spyder was not moving so.....: (only 5 mm)

This English clock was the last one I repaired:

Here, the wind was making it a little bit difficult...

Lovely shots with the new lens.
Be interested to know how useful the VR is when shooting handheld near 1:1

I love my 105. I think the VR helps me a lot my hands shake a lot. I can't hurt that is for sure. I need to shoot some side by side comparisons to show.

    Lovely shots.
The reason I asked about the VR when doing near 1:1 shooting is that it is normally necessary with the thin DOF and the inability of an AF system to know what you are trying to focus on, to switch to MF. In this case people either tend to use a tripod or to use the move camera/sway method of focusing and I would have thought the VR would be not be useful in either case.

I use the "FUNC" button, to set the camera on MIDDLE focus field (Nikon D90) . This is very practical. This way you now where the camera is focussing on)
(I hope to use the right words in English here)

Assume this sets the AF to only use certain AF spots in FOV. This can work well but tends to have a side effect of limiting the composition opportunities.
