Adventures in Second Photographery

I work as a sub-contractor, and as a second. April was a busy month for me including a death in the family, first holy communion, and a birthday, so it is probably for the best that of the 3 weddings I shot in April 2 of them were as a second photographer. I really enjoy shooting as a second, I find it relaxing and liberating.

If you ever have the chance to go to the Naval Academy Chapel for work or pleasure, don't think...just go. This is a wedding angle rarely seen. Because of renovations, the Chapel is open to photography in different areas. When the back half is open, photographers are not allowed past the spot where the large white curtain covers on the right (better bring something 300mm + for good ceremony closeups). For those of you who are keeping track, I have not broken my New Years resolution of not asking anyone to jump into the air. The first one was all the groom, the second was on the direction of the first photographer in the foreground.

C&C welcome, thanks for looking.

These are great. Nice and clear. So many members post hazy looking photos...forgetting to clean up the fog.
Remember, no one may want you to take pictures, but they all want to see them.

    3 10 and 11
3 is an awesome shot....really awesome.
10 maybe they could have been on the left side and you on the right then the row of lights would have worked better in the composition...nitpicking..a very cool shot.

I love 11 the lighting is very cool, very good work on the composition with that one.

    A first rate series, kudos!

I like 8. You can even see which of the girls have a little swagger to them! 3, 4, 6, 7, 11 are also awesome.

I'll agree about shooting 2nd... it allows you to really take some chances.

The photographer who was my wedding photo mentor, has been shooting weddings for 20 years and he just hates it now even though he is very good. He mostly does corporate year-end/quarterly reports, and product/magazine work. He gets sought out for destination weddings by his corporate clients for their spoiled little girls and whatnot but isn't typically a fan of dealing with the bride or all the other stuff involved in shooting a wedding.

Recently I got a contract through a referral of one of his brides that I shot 2nd for. I am still confused on how that came my way, but they paid my up charge for a 2nd photog and I hired him to shoot it. He was VERY excited to be able to shoot 2nd and I'm happy to put the dreamteam back together. headscratch.gif Of course I have to pay him 2x the amount I would normally pay for a 2nd but it seemed rather fitting that he and I shoot it together!

I'm jealous of all the 2 person studios that shoot everything as a pair. Some day!!!
