I have been seeing major slowdowns since yesterday sometime. I've tried a traceroute and ping to my domain, but everything looks fine there. I am on Verizon FIOS out of MA.

I have a Line Quality test running right now...

I've been seeing the same slowness since about yesterday afternoon.

Both Charter Cable at home and an AT&T 3G card.

Here's the line quality test from Charter:

    Smugmug slow to load?
    Hi,
this has beem plauging me for a bit, but at first I dismissed it as possibly temporary problems but now it's over the top. My web site on smug is *very* slow to access, I tried from my work where I have super fast connection and from my home where most of the sites are loading faster then smugmug. I'm on the Mac and I have tried both Safari and Firefox, both exhibit the same problem.

At first I though it may be my customization taking the toll but then I noticed that I expierence same delays when dealing with smugmug back end forms as well, suchs as gallery arrangements, gallery options, creating new categorires and subcategories etc. Even my uploading from LR2 which used to be pretty fast now is terribly slow. Quite often I get failuers dues to time out or error like servert didn't understood my request.

Any idea what is going on?
Why saving gallery options optiosn now takes up to a minute?
    Anybody else experience slowdowns ?
Was my account downgraded to second level citezen somehow and now all requesta are been throttled? (t sure feels that way)

Please look at this at your nearest opportunity.

PS. Here is what I often get :

    "Bad Request

Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand.
    Reference #7.2d4f32d0.1240797057.0"

yet, if I hit "Refresh" on that page it loads just fine.

    Site speed
Lately I have been experiencing some pretty lethargic speeds while surfing my site. A few customers also mentioned it to me. Is this just due to excessive traffic or server issues?

We're so sorry to hear about your viewing issues. If you recently
updated MacOSX 10.5.6 and use Safari, we have noticed that there may be
problems such as you're experiencing. For now, we suggest using Firefox
instead as a temporary workaround. It appears that Apple may have broken
something in their latest update as these errors are new and random for
    the people that updated.

    You can get Firefox here:
    http://getfirefox.com

It's not only happening on SmugMug, but also on other sites. It's an
Apple issue that you can see here:

    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1828195&start=0
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1828211&start=0

Oh and our CEO just blogged about this:
    http://blogs.smugmug.com/don/2009/03/26/nasty-safari-bug-not-fixed-since-december/

Let us know if that helps for the time being. Thank you for your
understanding and we apologize again for the temporary inconvenience.

... same thing here. This is very discouraging.

Can someone check my gallery for speed of loading and see if it's a problem on my end - either my Comcast connection OR something I'm doing wrong in setting up the galleries.

    Thanks.

Please don't be discouraged, the interwebs sometimes have issues. I'm betting this is one of those times.

We pride ourselves on speed, and have the fastest photo sharing site on the internet, we've spend a fortune to make it so.

I'm really sorry it's slow for some of you right now. We'll see what we can do!

Thanks for that reply, gluwater, but I think something global is going on here. Is there some smugmugization going on here that o don't know about?

Thanks, Andy. I'm not worried. Hey, I don't know if this is at all related, but I created a new gallery tonight and I cannot for the life of me get it to "arrange" to the top of the gallery list. Look here:
    http://www.halfpintprints.com/Good%20Friends,%20Good%20Times/294148
The last gallery (Michael's First Birthday) is supposed to be the first. I've used the arrange / save functions about a half dozen times and I can't get it to stay at the top of the heap.

While you're there, let me know if you think my gallery is slow from your side too. Thank you again.

    Hi Duren,

we are. That's why I posted. If there's something we can do we'll do it.
I'm at 37,000 feet on airplane wireless and it's quite fast for me.. so it's a likely an internet connection issue, not a smuggy issue.

    We're still looking, of course!

Sounds like there are two issues at play here - one is Safari related which I heard of and can buy. Second one is general sluggishness visible in Firefox, since in this case Safari is excluded something else must be in play.

Also as I mentioned before uploading from LR2 (using plugin) is deadly slow up to the point of it timing out, this also has nothing to do with Safari.

There are two unrelated issues. The Safari problem has nothing to do with the site being sluggish tonight. We're still looking into what, if anything, is slowing down the site on our end. We'll let you know more when we have something to tell thumb.gif.

Those having issues could post a traceroute, and your site name, here.

Try these instructions to run a traceroute on a PC:
    http://www.smugmug.com/gallery/2959046
That will help us see if and where any problems may be.

To run a traceroute on a Mac, follow the instructions here:

Copy and paste the results to us in an email.

Thanks Andy. On this end I did a lot of cleaning up on Firefox (disabled unused extensions and altered cache settings) and it has helped a bit. Firefox has been hogging system resources up to 50% much of the time lately. Now I have that dropped back down to ~5% and Smugmug loads faster but still not up to snuff and delays loading things now and then.

It may be a Sunday night problem with the entire world uploading all the photos they shot this weekend. :D

I still have 9 days on my trial Smugmug account so I'm hoping for the best. It IS a nice place to display my photos.

    Slow SmugMug here too
I've noticed that SmugMug has recently been slow for me as well. This has occurred both at home and at other locations on both Mac and Windows computers. I came here looking to see if something was up, since the site is usually speedy (the reason I joined in the first place).

Anyway, I did a traceroute on my Mac from home. The results:

    Traceroute has started ...

traceroute to www.smugmug.com (208.79.45.23), 64 hops max, 40 byte packets

    Glacial performance here! eek7.gif

I'm uploading the same images to both SmugMug and Zenfolio and they're going to Zenfolio at more than five times the speed of SmugMug.

Smug has been slow for weeks for me ???
Smug has been slow here as well. Arranging photos has been iffy, sort by order was not working at all !

Been looking at this for weeks as well.....

IMPORTANT: SmugMug statistics are getting a much needed overhaul with some exciting new features. As a result, statistics aren't up-to-the-second currently while we finish our work. We're still tracking all your hits, it just may take a little longer for them to show up here in your graphs. Your stats may be out-of-date for up to 24 hours but are otherwise working fine and are current.

I run constant testing on my site to see if I have problems at home, or if Smugmug has problems...

And, well... Smugmug has been twice as slow for the last 2 days in doing a full page load of www.nzsnaps.com

    slowsmugmug.png

Looking at it now - it may have just gone back down to normal.... Another site I monitor in Germany (I am in New Zealand) showed no changes over this period so it wasn't local conditions.

It would be nice to know what happened, if SM in fact know what happened.

    Cheers - N
