In a Bind (HELP)

Hey all,

I'm finding myself in, what could be, a very serious bind here.

As most of you know, I am getting Married June 25th of this year. We had everything all set, even the photographer, but we haven't heard from him lately and i'm starting to worry. Several phone calls and emails sent, but no response.

I don't know what to do. Anyone local willing to help out? Our/my budget isn't the greatest as I'm paying for most of this wedding myself, but we need something. I come here because I trust quite a few of you and am in such a bind.

Please let me know if you can help at all.

I'm in So. Cal, Orange County to be a little more precise.

Feel free to let me know either in here, or via PM.

Thanks again,

Steven

I would take a drive over to this photographers place... and call the BBB. I'm sure you have already given him money so I would find him and either get the money back or make him get with the program. If I was local to you I would jump at the chance but I'm in michigan.

I am sorta local but I don't know what you are expecting from the photographer. I don't do portraits or posed stuff and carry a Hassie, the weddings I shoot border more on surveillance. Hiring a photographer is like buying a car, you gotta find what you want. That weeekend I am "on call" and while there is a 98% chance I will have the day off, there is a 2% chance my pager will beep and I gotta work.

I have friends in your area and can ask around and see if anyone is interested. You may want to call other photographers immediately and see if they have the time available.

If you are really, really, really in a bind
as a LAST resort, I could help out. But it's an 8 hour drive for me (I guess 6 if I don't take the scenic route) one way, and I'd need a place to stay, and I'd drag my daughter with me as an assistant. (She gets shots I miss and vice versa).

Also all of us reading this, have no idea what "type" of photography or style of photography you signed up for.

Does your photographer have a web site we could check out?

But I know there are other dgrinners in So Cal -- maybe 2 or 3 could get together and photograph your wedding (for experience???) and split the balance owed to the photographer if he/she doesn't show?

Hey, a live action impromptu photo shoot of southern California dgrinners!

I don't have a dSLR, by the way, and I don't have a separate flash, so that's why I said only as a last, last, last resort... PM me for the link. I haven't cleared mass internet viewing by the bride, groom, family, etc.

Man are you getting the Marriage jitters, No prob been there :D
June 25th still a ways away, so you have time to work it out, maybe even work it out with your 1st choice in photographer?

Last resort (choice), I like Dee's idea an impromptu shoot (wedding) dgrin type get together. You then could pick from a group of shots, etc. etc. ne_nau.gif

I'd be on board with the above idea, heck you might even score points with your new bride & inlaws. 1/2 dozen photogs runnin around shootin your wedding could make ya look quite impressive/important :wow :lol4

    Steven -

part of me says, "sure, no problem, glad to help", the other part is having wedding jitters - this is too important a day to leave to an amateur. However, I do have some decent piccies under my belt, I'm free on the 25th, and I own a tuxedo.... so........ if anyone else wants to back me up I'd certainly be willing to volunteer to shoot away just for the experience. (Well, it might cost you one nerve-settling martini :D )

See if you hear from your hired gun first!

I am not as far away as Mic, but I might as well be. I hope it all works out. Things tend too.

Angelo has a tuxedo? I think you're hired Angelo. :D That's pretty flashy. A tux costs as much as a lens, even used. I'd rather have the lens, hence no tux here. clap.gif

The idea of all the dgrinners shooting one wedding would be a kick in the pants. It's be an event you'd not soon forget. We'll even follow you to a restaurant and flash away, celebrity style.

In fact if you can move the wedding to the local camera show.....

First of all, let me say this, You guys are such an awesome group. I can't believe the response I got to this and you people barely know me. Heck, you only know my meager attempts at photography.

    Thank You.

I did hear from our hired photog yesterday evening. He just got swamped, but never forgot about us. Thing is, now i'm bummed. After the offer I got from all of you guys, I almost wish he wasn't coming.

Hmmmm.... I am so grateful for you guys and your huge hearts. Thank you again.

Now sense i'm saving you guys huge amounts of money on traveling to come help me out, you can donate to my 20D fund as a great wedding gift :) hahahaha

On another note... anyone local care to do some egnagement pictures for experience (read not very expensive)

Thanks again for your offers and mostly, for making me feel a huge part in this "Family"

and your scheduled photographer contacted you! If I lived closer I'd crash your wedding and take pictures anyway! But I don't, so you're safe from me. :): :): :):

I was gonna say if all else fails you could offer up a years supply of cherry ripes and have 50 or so of us show up for your wedding to claim the prize.
