Camera firmware updates, general links

If possible, wouldn't it be smarter just to link directly to the manufacturer's page?
For example, this page here:
http://support.nikontech.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/13783#Anchor-DSLR-3800
has all the latest Nikon updates. I know for a fact the D40/D40X just underwent a small F/W update for issues with the new EN-EL9a batteries. Not the most useful update, but newer than the January 07 post for the camera linked now in the first post.
Not sure how other sites are laid out, but Nikon's seems pretty easy to link to!
Just a thought,
~Nick

I just don't have time to collect and maintain the information from all the manufacturers for all the models.
I will add your link to the list.

I have a few minutes now, so I got these as well. These are the selection pages, pretty much select your model and go forth and be merry.
Canon: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=DownloadIndexAct
Olympus: http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_downloads.asp?id=5
Pentax: http://www.pentaximaging.com/support/self-support/
Sony: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/select-system.pl?DIRECTOR=DRIVER&PRODTYPE=76
Is it better, in your opinion, to keep individual links like you have now, or to just provide a decently direct link to the manufacturers download area? My guess is the direct links, but up to you.
Thanks for all the time you put into this forum! We all appreciate it!

I do encourage people to post a thread whenever a new firmware update is posted. Then I will add the link to that thread into the sticky thread. Discussions about the firmware can continue in the individual thread without cluttering up the sticky thread.
That way firmware updates can also be found via search including Google searches.
I do appreciate your doing the research into the manufacturer sites pages and I'll add that to the sticky as well.
