Secret Waterfall

Since moving to the Asheville area 2 years ago, I've had the good fortune of meeting 2 old timers (I say that with sincere respect) who love to hunt for waterfalls also. Got an email from one of them last week with an attached photo of another one they found in the Pisgah National Forest in western North Carolina. He said he would take me there if I promised not to publish directions on my site - pictures were OK.
We were really amazed that this waterfall isn't mentioned in any of the guide books. The hike is about 3 miles one way, but very easy. Most was along forest service roads and easy to follow trails. Other people obviously go to this waterfall, but have managed to keep it a secret. The sun was shining brightly - a beautiful day for a hike, but my least favorite shooting conditions for waterfalls. The first image is the view we had when we 1st approached the falls. I know the highlights are blown out, but I wanted to include some detail in the rock wall.
There's a very narrow trail that passes behind the falls and a lot of delicate vegetation growing back there. Too many people visiting would trample the plants. Here's a shot from the other side.
There were very few places to take a shot from - some because of the spray. I shoot with a Sony 717 and had to add a wide angle lens to get the entire falls in for this last shot. I also had Bernie and John get in the picture for perspective.
North Carolina's waterfalls aren't necessarily the biggest around, so stumbling on a beauty like this is really a treat!

Rich.
That is a nice series. I like the last one best. I did not realise how big the falls were until I saw the last picture.
Shame about the weather though.
Where are the clouds when you need them?
