Thanks for the comments! I agree on #10... I wanted to be flush across the wall but he was on a steep incline (that is actually a garage door opening) and it was tough for him to lean forward more. The garage door was ugly which is why I shot 11 with only ambient and pushed my shutter speed up. That was a little under exposed but I like it's old movie look. I was looking for a certain brick arch doorway I had seen before but couldn't find it again so that will be a redo next time I shoot down there (downtown Milwaukee alleyways).

This one I was really debating on showing anyone, but since I went ahead and left it in the clients gallery I may as well see if you guys think I'm nuts for liking it. Obviously blown out. Just think of it as a shiney new silk purse made from a sows ear. The expression was perfect to my eye and I'm so mad that I fried it, but I included it for the client because if fnothing else it would make a great difuse background for an album page. I have to admit I like it even though it is blown to heck and over processed.

    Matt~
The pics look great!! I absolutely love the kissing one that you made dark & gold'ish in color - it looks like a magazine ad. So cool. I gave your info to a girl yesterday looking for a wedding photographer so you may be getting a call from a girl named carrie. Would you be able to get together with us on monday or tuesday? Just let me know.

    Thanks!

    Kristin Johnson

OK, I guess it was a good call giving that one up!! She is a hair stylist btw... definately wanted to make the good impression on her.

    I like 12.
I like the blown out one a lot.
You are right the expression is great the shot really captures the emotion.
Crop the bottom off right below her ear and the ring, make it a pano and change it to black and white....wallah a masterpiece....just like you meant to do it.

Black and white just didn't work to my eye. I will however try the crop. I spent a couple hours messing with the hand and I almost had it. There is detail in about 75% of the hand but there is no color detail. I got it close to looking natural the other day and I think I can do it. I know she is going to want a print of that one so I will have to work it up a little better for her.

for the record that blow out wasn't my doing... I have shots before that at the same settings that didn't blow. Wind was blowing my diffuser all around and maybe messed me up or my batts in the flash may have been low enough to effect ttl metering. shots before that her ring was cocked and after I fixed the ring it was blow-out-ville. Really too bad. If I can get some detail out of the hand I can texture the shirt area and it will be all good. pano may be the rout I take. thanks for the coments Z.

    Hi MMatt,
Noway you are going to bring the hand back, it is out there.
Here is an example of what I was thinking for the black and white.
I hope you don't mind, I have already deleted it from my program, so don't worry I am trying to steal it, just trying to help out.

I took out a lot of the contrast, put a little fog on it to dull it more, made it black and white, put some vignette on it.

don't worry Zoomer, I've seen your stuff and I know you don't need to steal mine. Thanks for taking the time. The reason the hand is gone is the processing. in the original Raw file there is still detail. I will try again with it and see what I can do. The crop is pretty nice though. I even tried a few closer cops and may go that route with it.

    Thanks for the intrest Z!

here are a couple more versions of that last one

13c. This one I processed 3 versions of the raw file and merged as an hdr. then merged the original with that, then did a bunch of whacky stuff I can't even remember and got this. The hand doesn't look natural though... I don't think I can get any better than this but I did eek out a touch of detail.

    528553246_yXzJu-L-1.jpg

13d. This is a crop similar to zoomers vut I left it gold. I understand why you brought the contrast down to better match the blown out areas and I may try that with the gold tone... I do like the gold.
    528553863_T6PmC-L-1.jpg

13e. This is a tight crop of the original and I think this may be what I push to the client. Still about 5 mp so it should print fine to about 12x18 or so.

    528552495_p3mHN-L-1.jpg

Any opinions would be great. We will be ordering prints in a couple days.

13d makes the hand look really bizarre, so I too vote for 13e :)

Thanks Sheri. I like 5... that was a couple frames before or after the blown out one. I like the blown one better though. 6 I like a lot... I'm not sure why I had their feet so far down in the frame... The shot before was better in that regard but I really like the expressions in this one so that is the one I showed you guys. They are laughing because the water has just touched their feet for the first time. Weather was low 80's at this point but I guarantee that water was just a couple clicks over freezing. That is Lake Michigan and around here it doesn't get bearable until August! This is the kind of shot I really like and usually can get, but these two were so stiff it took ice water to really see the real them.

Matt, these are really nice. That almost kiss one is perfect. 13D Without the clarity adjustment in a B&W would be killer. I like the beach shot as well but its a little too soft for me.
