Breaking Links to Photos

I linked a photo from my site to a v bulletin board. I now want to take that photo down, but it has been quoted a few times as well.

I went in and deleted the photo from my Smugmug account, will that break the chain? Is there a time lag between deleting on my site and breaking the link on the v bulletin board?

If I look at the properties of the quoted photo, it links back to my Smugmug account, so its not a stolen photo, but also a copied link.

    You can also turn external links off for the gallery. That will break a direct link like this.

    I would assume deleting should break the link. You might not see it as broken because it's in your browser disk cache so it doesn't even go to Smugmug to get it. Clear your browser cache and then see if it renders any more? Obviously new viewers won't have it in their disk cache so this won't be an issue for them.
