I haven't seen to many river rafting photo's here, are there folks out there that just don't put them in here thinking that nobody would like to view photo's of river rafting? I have the chance this summer to do some river photo's for a rafting company and it sounds exciting, and I'm looking forward to doing it.
Some of the questions that I have are, I would like to use smugmug as a website for me and viewing, purchasing place for the customers that would like to see what they and the people that they went down the river look like in the moment,
1) would you use this kind of site for this?
2) and if you have done this kind of photographing, what do you use for a viewing place?

So just wondering anyone is into this kind of sport photographing and if any one would like to divulge any info I would appreciate your help
Lynn

Web site? My family and I went river rafting on the Nantahala years ago (film days) and the prints were mailed to us. Based on the samples on the bulletin boards, we knew they'd be good.

I would imagine that in this digital age that prints would be ready by the time the raft trip was over, or - at least - that images would be available to be viewed on a monitor, ordered, and printed on-site.

I think you have offer them for sale on-the-spot while the experience is still fresh. When the visitor gets back home, it's remembered as just one other experience and the desire to buy a print is less.

This is a small, and bad, scan that I just happen to have handy. To give you an idea how long ago that was taken, the two teenagers in front are now in their 40s.

We went white water rafting last summer in Colorado. The photos were on display on an HD T.V. when we got back to the rafting company. They charged us $20 for 9 photos on a CD. Here are a couple of examples.

Searching whitewater here on Dgrin I found some awesome shots from a shooter out in Idaho - http://miker1.smugmug.com/

I also remembered a DGrinner/Smugmugger that did a fair bit of whitewater photography and searched for some of his posts. I got his smugmug address from his signature and found a gallery of his favorites - http://www.carolina-sportsphotography.com/gallery/3225329_nFSPq#183816366_UTwh3

Here's an example of a photo website for people who raft down the Yough in PA - http://www.shopwwaraft.com/pictures/upper-pics.html You'll see that they have sections for upper, middle, and lower yough as well as Cheat River.

I've also been on the New River. I went with friends who were guides, but saw lots of other companies out including Class VI who partners with Whitewater Photography to offer 8x10s here is the photo company's website - http://www.leisuresportsphoto.com/mp_client/pictures.asp?eventid=0&categories=no&keywords2=no&groupid=62

    And then for fun...I googled.

Basically, yes, I think a website would be a great way to sell rafting photos. Instant gratification is always nice, but returning home and being able to see your photos online is neat too. It's also a nice way to get residual sales from family members/friends and perhaps other participants who didn't purchase on the day of the trip.
