missing CS4 filters

I wanted to use the distort>spherize filter but when I went to the filter menu many of them were grayed out. I seem not to have artistic, brush stroke, pixelate, sketch, texture and under the distort the spherize and many of the others are grayed out. I looked in the plugins>filter folder and I an see the spherize file so why is it not showing up in the menus as a selectable item?

    What mode was the image? Sadly, some PS filters only work on 8 bit, RGB pics. One can only wonder when Adobe will do something about it.

    Ha, yes, you were correct, they are all they in 8-bit.
