Lensbabies...

I did a search on here for it, but couldn't really find what I was looking for, so here goes, I'm sure, another thread about these things...

So my local photo shop was having a huge Nikon sale today with all the Nikon reps...whoo hooo...on a brighter note, they had some reps selling some cool accessories. This girl was selling lensbabies. I've heard a bit about these, but never knew exactly what they did. I tested one out and got the quick shpeal from her and went on my way. It looks pretty interesting. My question is, is this something that "real" or "pro" photographers use? Or is it just another gimmick thing that is a "fad" or whatever (like some think selective coloring is)? It seems like a pretty trick way to focus on exactly what you want to focus on and nothing more...

Anyways...thoughts?

Lensbabies can be a PITA to use properly (difficult manual focus, manual aperture rings) but the results are truly unique. To me, certain areas of photography benefit from their use more than others and I use it sparingly at best. On the other hand, I have a shot with a lensbaby that I took at a recent wedding that surprisingly has gotten my more jobs recently than I would have thought, perhaps its because it is so different.

The good news is they're relatively inexpensive if you like the look the produce.
