About a week ago I decided to work on my ground level technique for shore birds so I went to practice on the Avocets that were nesting near the road at the Palo Alto Baylands.
These are my favorite shots from that session.

1. American Avocet at very close range.

2. Avocet with a small catch

3. Another angle

4. Different background...

4. Avocet in flight

5. They even had some babies...

Thanks for looking.
Cheers,

Thanks Ben. I just noticed your thread one that subject. :D
It's kind of fun getting these shots. I recently started using a right angle viewfinder to be able to set the camera on the ground, otherwise it was really hard to see through the viewfinder.
One thing I noticed is how hard it becomes to keep the horizon leveled. It's really easy for me to lose the reference, so I end up straightening lots of shots in PP. :cry

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"
