Velvet ant

Now on my way back from "the point" (see the 'Journeys' forum for my posts on that), I encountered a queen velvet ant in quite a hurry to get her colony started.

I couldn't get her to sit still for one second. ONE second, mind you!

Now YOU try to get a macro in rapidly fading twighlight and see how much fun YOU have trying to massage the image without fancy schmancy CS4!

    Sorry about the image quality, M' Loahhd. Now you just wait until I find one of these wierd crawly-thingies with two little green lanterns glowing on it's tail end.

    And yes, there ARE fireflies in Arizona (in the Verde Valley, anyway). July is when they start showing up.

    Dang it's good to be back in Arizona!

    I've never seen one of these Ants before.
