And i really like it....only a couple of gripes that just need getting used to....REALLY stiff zoom ring, weird AF/MF clutch mechanism, and it extends when going wide angle and shortens when zooming in. :dunno

But my copy looks sharp at f2.8 and really tack sharp at f4 or so, and doesnt exhibit any of thet front focusing i hear a lot of people complaining about. :D

    Chase,

Fantastic! Please keep us informed as I am interested in the same lens as the standard zoom for a Rebel XT.

There are some pics of this monster. Those are 9 quarters sitting on the front lens cap. You can barely see the camera when someone is pointing it at you. rolleyes1.gif

Overall first impressions are good, but i need to use it for me to really tell........thumb.gif

Okay so the pictures are up.....it does look a bit soft at 70mm and f2.8, and maybe a little at 24mm, but stopped down it is wonderful....anyways i have heard the canon one aint so great at f2.8 either.

    Last time i checked $1100 > $370

Though that 82mm tiffen UV filter set me back 40 bucks. umph.gif

I checked some of your photo's.......it appears as if they are taken at 1/10th of a second at ISO 200. I'm sure you had it on a tripod. But, a couple of pics at higher shutter speeds and at a range of apertures may be a little more helpful in determining the lens characteristics.

I too am compairing a few lenses......looking to get the 20d - (just waiting for a newer version to come out to knock prices down a little) - and a good 3 lens set. I'm not rich so, it's a toss-up between the 3 lenses in this range. Specifically the one you have and the Tokina.

thanks in advance......hope your having fun with it!

Actually, there wasnt one taken below 1/50th of a second, and that was at 24mm. Most were between 1/100 and 1/160 ne_nau.gif

Anyways, I am really loving this lens, and it looks and feels pretty "pro" too. thumb.gif
