So just as I was ready to give up on any ideas for this round, the freakin' carnival came to town:barb
Went out for the first night with my son and grabbed a few snaps to see if this would project the theme well.
Thoughts? suggestions???
Thanks in advance,
E

Second, I can't help but think that the guy in the first one is . . . well, you know. It's that posture. That really detracts from what you want the viewer to focus on.
Third, the lighting is a bit odd for me. Why not capture this at dusk or just after dark? I think you'd get better images.
Just my 2 cents. You did ask. :tiptoe

Thanks for the thoughts
Agree about the crops - it's amazing that the 10-22 on the 50D wasn't quite wide enough... I'll have to figure out better angles
Also will definitely try for better light - this was the first night and I figured it was worth scouting out to see if the concept 'worked'. Guess I'll see what I can come up with over the next few days with better angles and light and go from there.
Thanks again,
E

I agree with Jeff..
The crops are too tight and the one guy looks strange... plus if you are going for impact.. definitely shoot this at night...

What a stroke of luck to have a carnival in your area at this time! You definitely have some potential energy shots just waiting to happen.

Went back to the carnival - this time without the 3 year old in tow. Tried to capture the theme across different rides and experimented with shutter speed and flash. Here are the finalists from tonight's expedition. Any jump out at you? Is the concept worth pursuing??
Thanks again,

#1 sticks with me...
It is easier shooting without the kids... isn't it!?

I appreciate a good critique... and would love to hear from you!
I agree
#1 or #5
the ones that show energy in motion and light are good.. you may even be able to darken it some around them and then pull out some color..

I like 3 & 4.
My family always has accused me of disagreeing just to disagree.

Wife voted for 1 too so it looks almost unanimous. Last night was a wash (as far as a reshoot) and the carnival ends at 6 tonight so no chance for retrying some of these...
Guess I'll bank #1 and see if I can come up with any other ideas for the round. Just not sure if it's going to be good enough once these entries start spilling in
Thanks again,
E

At the risk of being a bit repetitive, I reviewed all of my carnival shots (again) and reworked some (a bit). Would appreciate thoughts on faves.

I like 2, 4, 7 and 8...
7 being my favorite because it has actual subjects along with the lights and motion that are being effected by the motion, making it all that more impactful.. you have some good ones here..
