May 1st Wedding, trying some new post processing

My May 1st wedding this past Friday kicked off my spring/summer/fall 2009 wedding season. I knew the groom from an organization we were both in during college (though we went to different colleges, we met at regional meetings) and so I was thrilled to be able to do the photos for his wedding when he asked. I also started doing some new style of post processing that I hadn't previously dabbled in (I recently discovered the magical world of Lightroom presets, yeah I know, I was behind the curve, lol). Plus their church was just stunning inside! Anyway I'm really pleased with the results and I hope you will be too!

Oooh love your ring shots. They are stunning as always! You can come shoot for me and just do ring shots all day long okay?

Where did you get your presets? Loving what they did- really dark and vibrant. Nicely done!

    Love 2, 3 & 4

#10 the rings look like Frogs perched on a lily! Well.. as a once aspiring biologist, I thought that was cool.

Pretty sweet series, Cat! That couple found a gorgeous church to get married in! Using presets does make things a lot more interesting and, well faster, in LR.

I often wonder, this might not have much relevance, if anyone had used t/s lenses for the actual wedding ceremony. Maybe there was and I haven't seen them, but visuals like #11 and #12 would make me want to try!

Very nice images and post processing. I'm on board...these are great. I know your clients will be very happy. Thanks for sharing.

    Hi,

Really like the colour on these. Images 11 and 12 are really nice and bright, just wondering what settings you used for those?

Presets rule! I need to get some...
Really nice series, lots of pop in the shots as well as creative compositions.

That church was amazing and the color and exposure really were nice on those shots.

8 the color looks a bit off.
9 is a nice shot. You may think about cloning out the light colored vertical stripe in the middle of it.
10 looks like there is an out of focus bud covering the ring.
1 Maybe crop a smidge off the bottom.
4 is a cool shot but don't put the couple right behind the bouquet
2 and 6 are really nice shots compositionally, if the couple were interacting in some way instead of just standing there looking at you those would really be awesome shots.
3 the background is pretty distracting with the large black branch going through both their heads

Still a very nice set of shots, I hope I didn't sound like a downer. I don't normally give detailed critique but since these are so nice and you have obvious talent I am just trying to help out. Please take my constructive critique in the positive tone it was intended.
    Good work.

I'll come shoot for you anytime! ^_^ I googled for most of the presets, though a couple I modified and made my own variations, most were straight from what I found for free via my googling. Some of my favorites I got from here: http://www.presetsheaven.com/2009/02/19/8-epic-lightroom-presets-for-weddings/ but I have several others as well that I used. Wonderland for example has some nice free presets, of which I liked their "a-game" preset (though I tweaked it a bit for my uses)...but yeah the PH Weddings presets definitely my favorite batch of presets.
I often wonder, this might not have much relevance, if anyone had used t/s lenses for the actual wedding ceremony.
I don't own any T/S lenses, but that would certainly be interesting to try! My really wide shots in the church are 35 f1.4/L

Thanks, lots of little things I hadn't thought of here... as for your comment about #2 where you wanted them to interact more, is this better?

Thanks, let me know how you like the presets, I found them a lot of fun to work with and plan to eventually start tweaking and creating some of my own variations.

Hm, haven't tried those out, but I think I'll give them a try later. I got worried when I went to go download them, until I saw the magic words:

"Choose the plug-ins you wish to download below. Download links will be emailed to you instantly. Most downloads are fully functional versions that expire in 30 days except for PhotoPresets which are completely free. Our plug-ins work with Photoshop CS2/CS3/CS4 and many work with Lightroom 2 and Aperture 2.1."

    Cool

BTW, I got the ones you mentioned and they are fun! I haven't gotten to play with them much but I will I am sure... Thanks for the link, Cat.

Really nice set! 4, 9, (even tho the white line is there), 10, and 12 (what a beautiful church!) are my faves...His face looks a little pale in #7, and her smile is a little unnatural/cheesy in #5...just minor things, I know...

I love when the cherry blossoms start to bloom...we have one right out our balcony...LOVE #10!

I used one of the PH Wedding Presets for Lightroom actually... Surreal effect or something I think it was? I'm away for work this week, so I'm not near my personal computer until next week :)

    Thanks!
