used Epson vs. New Wolverine

So here is my dilemma. MY wolverine, after three years of use, finally died. Dead as a doornail.

I'm not complaining about the wolverine. I abused it, I must admit. I abused it seriously. I lost the carrying case, I carried it, often loose, in my bag, through Europe, North America, and Central Asia. Part of the edge had cracked off. I gave it a beating.

Let me also re-iterate that the Wolverine customer service was impeccable. The first one I bought had a hard drive failure about two weeks after I bought it. I sent tech support an e-mail with the particulars of the case and my info. 30 minutes later I received a phone call, unsolicited, from wolverine. They replaced it within a week.

But I know myself, and my style of travelling and photography, well enough to know that I am going to deal out similar punishment to whatever replaces my wolverine. So, is the Epson built "tougher" than the wolverine.

I have the opportunity to buy, for $350, a used 80gb Epson P-5000, from a reputable supplier (not e-bay). Or a new wolverine 120 gb for $300.

What do you recommend that I do?
