I am thinking about getting the tamron 18-250mm lens, but I see two on amazon and I'm not sure what the differnce is. Here is the link.

Which one would be better with the D90? And is it correct that neither of those lenses have any sort of vibration reduction?

Or, whould the 18-270 WITH vibration compensatin (is that the same as the VR in the nikon lenses?) be a better choice? I'd like to be able to get pretty crisp pictures at the telephoto end for wildlife photos, but I hear that this lens has had mixed reviews.

Or, what about the 28-300 with VC? What's the difference between these two/which would be better for the D90?

Too many choices. crazy1.gif But, I think these are what I have my next lens narrowed down to. I just need to figure out which would be a good fit with the D90.

Thanks!

Melissa, welcome to the Digital Grin. clap.gif

Lots of choices you have mentioned.

How important is the wide end of the zoom? (28mm is not too wide on a Nikon crop 1.5x camera like the D90.)

    How important is image quality?

How important is autofocus speed and accuracy?

On a cropped sensor like the D90, I would not recommend a 28-300mm zoom as 28mm is not wide enough for many folks.

18-200mm range zooms were made for bodies like the D90 to mimic the field of view and range that a 28-300mm zoom on a traditional 35mm film camera.

The new tamron 18-270 VC is made to replace the 18-250mm. I think PopPhoto reviewed it and I've seen a person I know test it out and the newer lens is nicer IMO. The VC or Vibration Control is nice as well.

If you can swing the extra cost and want a do it all lens then the 18-170 may be a good one to consider. IMO I think theses 10+ times zooms sacrifice too much image quality for range. Hence I'd also recommend considering something cheaper with with less ambitious range like the Sigma 17-70 and Sigma 18-125mm OS.

    Good luck.
