It seems that deleting multiple photos isn't working, I have tried 4 times to delete various images from this gallery
http://www.carolineshipsey.co.uk/gallery/8132098_mEQVv#P-1-20
but it just isn't happening. Some of them disappear but others do not, for example this image
http://www.carolineshipsey.co.uk/gallery/8132098_mEQVv#531122007_rvf7S

Please tell me I'm missing something :scratch

Can you try again after clearing cookies, cache, closing and reopening?

If it persists, what browser and version? ear.gif

    Andy,
I had already tried that but just for you.....:D

OK I paid more attention to what was going on and it seems that on a completely random basis the selection of some images is canceled when making an additional selection ie,
1st line of images select one image to delete
2nd line select a further 2 images - line 1 image is deselected

Presumably this was what was happening previously but I had failed to notice as originally there were quite a lot of images in this gallery and I was scrolling down so couldn't see the full page of images.

    Caroline,

I had another user report this the other day. The only way I could reproduce was to rapidly and I mean realllllly fast click on photos or click on a previously selected photo. It was almost like the web browser could not update the selection fast enough.

I mentioned this to one of the programmers and he thought it was related to moving the mouse during the click process. There is a 3px tolerance between clicking and dragging, he felt that the drag was canceling the selection of the earlier photos. I think that he was going to raise that tolerance level to see if it would help prevent this from happening.

I would recommend taking your time when clicking to select images. I will keep an eye on this process to see if I can figure out what else might be going on.

    Hi Doc,
I don't have a mouse, I use a stylus all the time. However, just to be sure the is no element of dragging I've tested this again - several times and I can still emulate the problem referred to in my email, it appears to be completely random - fast, slow, backwards and forwards, sometimes they remain selected and other times not :-(
Don't worry Doc, I'm not expecting a solution but I do think there is a problem here, just a little one.

This seems to be happening to me as well. I have an unlisted gallery that has about 2400+ files, mostly JPEG, but some are also grouped SmugVault files. I have a bunch of duplicates I'm trying to delete, but it looks like the Delete Many Photos page does not "remember" my selections.

After flagging several dozen or so photos for deletion, I scroll up to the top only to read that only 4-8 (or some other low arbitrary number) as being selected for deletion.

I do click to select pretty quickly -- probably less than 1-second between clicks, but I didn't figure that would be an issue since I never saw any other shots on my screen become deselected inadvertently. But something is happening to deselect a bunch of my prior selections that are scrolled out of view.

I've been able to duplicate this issue several times, both on Safari 5.0.5 and Firefox 3.6.16 on Mac OS X 10.5.8. I'll test this out on my Snow Leopard machine tomorrow.

We'll help - can you write our Support Heroes with details and we'll get on it, I cannot replicate this issue :( Thanks!

This selection problem is the same thing that sometimes happens in other Smug tools where one can make bulk selections. I know it happens with rotation, too, and I'd wondered if it should be looked into but didn't hear back about it. Whenever I scroll down & some previous rows containing selected images are in the area then not showing on-screen, I lose later selections unless I hold the "Control" key down (PC-- I forget what "Control" is on the MAC).

I mean, this behavior is consistent with folders of images on our computers as well, but I think the difference here is that the previously-selected images only de-select when you aren't seeing them. On the computer, they de-select as soon as you hit another button, so you're noticing it. Anyway, the work-around is to hold the Control key down when selecting, if this is the entire issue. If there's something else going on, then that's another matter. There should probably be a note to tell people to hold Control down when selecting, especially if visible images are staying selected when another key is hit, because it's just behavior that's different from what you expect if you're used to working with open folders on your home computer.... i.e. when you see visible selected files here on Smug staying selected without using "Control", you wrongly assume you don't need "Control". You only figure it out when the non-visible files are un-selected if you happen to scroll back.

Doc, see my recent post #8. I don't think this is a drag issue (confirmed by the fact that the OP isn't using a mouse anyway), but I've seen this lots & lots in my larger galleries (such as archives), and have found that the photos no longer showing on my screen, even though previously selected, because I've scrolled down & can't see them w/o scrolling back will deselect themselves. I use FF (the latest) with Vista. (I've wondered if different browsers treat this situation differently, but haven't tested).
