Spring time in the Columbia Gorge

I spent a few days in Portland over the weekend, and a few hours taking photos of waterfalls in the gorge. The rivers and creeks are flowing steady right now, and I got drenched splashing around in the creeks and getting sprayed on from the waterfalls. Good times.
I'm always amazed at the density of waterfalls in this area, and some of the trails (Eagle Creek, Elowah / Upper McCord Creek) are spectacular. I only wish I had more time.

I'm a newbie here, and I don't know much, but these are stunning in my opinion (I could be biased though )

Amazing is the only word that comes to mind, great long exposure use on the water. And the colors are just outstanding, perfect

I'm in Seattle and I still make it down there 3-4 times a year. I don't think I walked more than 8 miles total for all of the falls in this set, and none of the hikes were difficult at all (just a little muddy and wet). I would recommend going at off peak times (sunrise/sunset or weekdays or rainy weather) as the trails can get pretty busy.

Full frame body (5D MII), 16-35mm and 24-105mm lenses, each with a polarizer filter. These are all single exposures, usually around f/16 ISO 100 with some variance. Had a cloth to wipe off the front of the polarizer between exposures, rain proof jacket and pants, and rubber boots too.

Thanks, Latourell is one of my favorites. I think I'll have to add Elowah to that list now too (it was the first time I was there).

Thanks - yeah, a wide angle lens is a must for these. I actually just used two lenses, the 16-35 and the 24-105, and almost all of the shots were with the 16-35.

I'm so glad I joined this site I have so much to learn
Thanks Randy, it's easier to stay dry in the Columbia Gorge than to take a bad photo in the Columbia Gorge

Thanks Jessa - the tripod did wobble when I was in ~18" of quick moving current in Eagle Creek when I was trying to take a photo of punch bowl falls, but it would have taken a tripod twice as heavy to withstand that probably, and that's not a price I'm willing to pay - I'll go back in late summer when the water isn't as high.
Anyway, it's a great tripod, have fun.
