Marmalade hoverfly egg-laying

Found this marmalade hoverfly egg-laying on an aphid infested shoot. It carefully examines each part of the plant for the presence of aphids before landing and laying an egg near each colony.

    Great shots! Have you ever seen an image of a larva actually consuming an aphid? Looks very much like a scene from a horror movie :D

    Nice series Brian. The in flight is very impressive.

    I was trying too shoot this same thing last week but my little girl never came out into the open for a good shot. I finally gave up after an hour of watching and moved on :)
