Card Reader won't Read my Sandisk

I picked up a SanDisk Ultra II 4Gb. My card reader would not read it. I took the card back and got a replacement should the first be faulty. The second card can't be read either. I tried two different card readers for the Ultra II 4 GB to no avail. The card readers are standard 2.0 readers. My older SanDisk Ultra II cards that are 2 Gb can be read just fine. Why can't the 4GB be read? :dunno:dunno

I'll bet this is an "SDHC" card. I'll also bet that your card reader is "SD" compatible but not "SDHC" compatible.

If it is an SDHC card then you may (probably) need to purchase a new card reader capable of reading the SDHC format.

By "standard 2.0 readers" I presume you mean USB 2.0 specification, which is the connection port on your computer but nothing to do with the SDHC card type.

Yes, the SanDisk Ultra II 4GB is an SDHC card and yes the card readers are USB 2.0. The new card reader does not say it is compatable with an SDHC just an SD; it says every other card but SDHC. I just assumed... bummer

Any recommendation for a card reader?

SanDisk has nice ones, but a cheap $3 USB 2.0 Cardreader from China (via ebay) works as well. We use both with content.

I have not started to use SDHC cards myself so I have not changed my card reader for a couple of years. I've read about some happy users with this combination:

I got a card reader that specifically read SDHC. I no sooner plugged it in and it downloaded! Wow, it is significantly faster. Thanks for the info!!!!
