removed smugmug header, but it still appears in the guestbook
any advice on how to make this setting a site wide change.

It's pretty difficult to help without a link to your site. Please add a link to your site in your signature. Click You! above and to the left, then Edit Signature.

This is just a guess since I can't look at your site - do you have hide owner set to yes on your guestbook? If you do, that removes your customizations.

added the link to signature.
and yes i had hid owner turned on. changed that and all is working perfect.
