And I don't even live in the America's.:huh
Have just returned from a 10 day trip to Florida whilst accompanying my wife on a conference in Ft Lauderdale.
I thought I'd give Butterfly World a visit, armed only with my D300, 70-200 & SB900.
It was hard not to avoid the bright highlights in the BG, and you have to photograph these twitchy guys where you find them. Very frustrating, but I had a ball, a really beautiful place, that everyone should visit if in the area.

C & C most welcome.

Cheers
Marc

Ruby Throated Hummingbird.
D300, 70-200 + SB900.
1/60s f/10 @ 200. M flash @ 1/8, producing around 1/8000s, tried 1/16 but resulted in very dark and fake (to me) BG.

    Very nice work Marc,

Living on an acreage on the prairies I'm limited to shooting them at The Big Red feeder, sigh...

It's just not the same mwink.gif

    All terrific, Marc.thumb.gif

This one is really to my liking...just the right shutter speed to get that wisp of a wing to the lower right of the bird.:D

Whoa. These are really nice. Great work. Question: how did you use your flash? Was it mounted on your camera or did you use commander mode to get a better angle?

First time shooting hummers???? I'd like to see what you can do when you get a little experience under your belt Marc. rolleyes1.gif

#3 with the full wing spread is my pick but, of course, all are outstanding.thumb.gifthumbthumb.gifthumb

    Hi Jeff

The SB900 was mounted straight on top, you don't have time trying to hold the 900 in the other hand in commander mode, was having enough trouble just concentrating on getting the Hummers in frame.:giggle

    Cheers

Great hummer set, Marc! Your first hummer is not a Calliope though, most likely a ruby throated!

That's pretty bloody impressive for the first attempt (or were you saying that tongue in cheek?). I particularly like #3 (you could almost use that in a Rolex™ ad…)

    Nice job!
