I don't feel this works. It's definitely a colorful shot, but selective coloring is great to draw attention to a specific subject. Here, your subject must be the color because you've B&W'd your son so he no longer stands out.
I find most selective color shots don't work because the photog is using the effect for its own sake and doesn't really add anything to a photo. I know this because I fall into this same trap with IR all the time.
I'd like to see this shot in either all color, or just colorize your son and maybe the red bars (may be too much). I can see where the bright colors could detract from your subject so a selective color might work here.
Just my opinion, and we all know what opinions are:D.
