Flower (Focus Stacking)

Here is a photo I made yesterday. The shot consists of 9 images at varying focal lengths that were then stacked to get the depth of field. Thanks for looking.

Dumb question: Why couldn't one take this shot at f/22 or more and get the same result

I just couldn't get the dof at that close a distance with a macro lens. The dof is too narrow at that distance I guess! I tried till f16, but it did not work...
