Non Canon Macro Ring Light

So I just picked up the 100mm Canon lens (well the wife bought it for my birthday - yeah!). Now I am in the market for a ring light - but of course after shelling out the bucks for the lens I would like to avoid the $400 or $600 for the Canon lights.
So are any of the non-canon lights any good? I looked on B&H and there are a number in the $100 to $200 range - some with good reviews - but would like to know from others what the consensus is.
THANKS!!!

One that looks "OK" is this one:

Bower SFDRL14C
Now I am no flash expert - so I don't know what this light won't do that the Canon lights will do. It says "provides full TTL control (including E-TTL II) with both digital or film SLR cameras" on the features page.
On the specs page it says it is not Auto-F-Stop and not variable power. I expect this is something the Canon light has - and it probably important. Although not being an expert I don't know...
Now this one:

Has auto-F-Stop. Which I think is a good thing.
But as I said - looking for help...
