What a creative take on a classic job! I think #3 is the strongest of the set...I might desat the pink in his shirt a little bit though...really like the warm tones you have going on for the walls.
#1 is too worked for my tastes as well though...the blurring in the hair isn't flattering to either of them IMO. I know some who really like the soft focus stuff though.
#2...to be honest, it looks like it could have been shot in the red light district...I really like the edgy feel to it though...I think it works for younger generations who don't want the standard engagement shoot..sure would have to be for the right client.
yeah, I don't care for the processing on any of these but I think 2 is an awesome comp and 3, short of some fill flash, is well done... good use of that beam of light.
Not working for me. In number one, with her hair line...not so good...I would think she is going bald from the way you shot her.. I don't think ears are that attractive and being lighter than the rest of the image, your eyes are drawn to her right ear. Good for you artistically...but I can't imagine that she would like it. However, if she does like it, let us know. And, for me, at first a bit over processed, but as I looked at it several times...maybe not...depends on what your clients are looking for.
I like the concept in all of them. Two and three, for me, hide too much of what I would be paying for...my picture. In two, they have no identity. With so much blacked out, who are they? At least in number three, we can see, if you know the couple, that she is who she is.
All in all, I like your artistic approach.
Thanks for sharing, keep'em coming.

Thanks all for the comments thus far! Interesting thing is that you guys are hitting on the points that made these appealing for "them". Very young couple, very into the processing for these. I attempted what I did on the first one @ her request. She wanted a high-key gaussian approach. Not her words but I knew exactly what she was hoping for. I too, think this one has passed the "comfortable line" for me. The other two were approached specifically because of the lighting in these locations. They, nor I, wanted facial detail in these but an overall contrast so that family and friends would know exactly who it was and the rest of "us" could just enjoy the mystery. Both of them were very pleased and if it's any measure of gratification, their Facebook page has been inundated with positive comments from the "non-photography" type crowd. I have made/had several contacts/referrals from their friends wanting to speak with me about providing photography services. It's very reassuring to have them request such edgy pictures and be able to deliver on that request. And for what it's worth, the comment about the second image possibly being in the Red Light District.......
