I know this is from a long time ago, but do you still have these cameras?

    Hello,

Matter of fact yes, I still do have ONE camera....

However, in the meantime, since the posting of this thread, it has 'stopped' taking photos, I think the not so famous, 'shutter blank/dead'?

I was using it one day, taking photos, click-click :D - then NO photos were taken anymore...

I've been hoping someone MIGHT want to buy it (reasonably) cheap, to either try to fix themselves, have it fixed, or have for spare parts...?

    Interested...?

Shame too, as it took great high-quality photos... (nice lens)...

    Let me know...?

    Thanks!

    Have a nice afternoon...

    God Bless,
    Ed

I replied to your PM, but I'll also post here.

Depending on which problem it has, it may be something I can use. I have an e20n that I've owned since I got it back in 2001. It had the shutter button fail at 14k, and that was repaired by Olympus years ago. But now the shutter curtain itself seems like it's stuck shut. You can see it when you look in the front of the lens. :( The camera will still try to meter, but it's pitch black so it does the 2" 2.0 flash on the display indicating there's not enough light.

If your camera still has a clear lens, then I may be able to use it for parts to repair mine. If anyone else reading this has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them. I have almost all the accessories for this camera, and it's a staple in my arsenal. Moving to another platform isn't something I really want to do.

    Hello,

I also answered your PM, and yes the lens is clean...

As I indicated via the PM, I don't know for sure what the nature is for sure on my E-20N camera, but -sort of sounds like the dreaded - shutter curtain failure?

Let me know, what you think..?

    Can this be checked..?

    Thanks!

The easiest way to check if the shutter is stuck is just try to look through the viewfinder. It will be totally black even when the viewfinder cover is open and the lens cap is off.

To test your shutter button, depress it half-way like you are taking a picture. If you do not hear the motor attempting to focus or the green dot flashing, then the button is the problem, which would mean our two cameras could possibly made into one working one.

    Hello

Well...the only set of AA rechasrgeable batteries I had, were NOT fully charged... (Sigh)...

The camera turned on, and showed data on the LCD, menu and the top LCD, BUT - when I got ready to raise to my eye, they are now too dead to use...

    Have them charging...

    Let you know ASAP...

    (Sorry about that...)

    Thanks!

You may not even need the batteries. From what I remember, you can still look through the viewfinder if the camera is off, it's just darker than normal. Have a look and let me know what you find. :)

    Hello,

Ok, I found another set of 'charged' - AA, and this is the outcome:

    Camera turns on.

Viewfinder BLACK, showing 2" (seconds) exposure time, @ f/2.2 - ISO 320 (I set it manually).

Green - In Focus Confirmation appears within the viewfinder, and beeps.

'Takes photo', but - actually really doesn't... Bummer...headscratch.gif

So, it still seems to be, as I suspected way back, the shutter is (as you mentioned it) - stuck...?

Anything you'd be interested in? (I don't think you would be, UNLESS you use one for the trial and error test repair project, to learn by doing dismantling?

    Let me know...?

    Thanks!

(Sorry it didn't seem to take the normal photo, but - that's why I 'parked it'.)

    God Bless,
    Ed

    Hello,

I can't see through the viewfinder...

Looking down into the camera, I see a circular (maybe - shutter curtain)?

    Bummer too...

Now, Since you mentioned the camera, I'm sort of thinking, would it be feasible to try to (attempting) to fix, on my own, BUT - I'm not a camera technician.... headscratch.gifrolleyes....

Sorry, sounds like we both have the same problems with our E-20N?

Let me know what you think, if anything about it?

    Thanks!

(Also, I will need to be 'away' from the computer for about ½ hour, guessing, but will remain online here.)

    God Bless,
    Ed

I never thought about trying to switch it to manual focus. And when I do...it does the same thing as yours. :cry

I'll keep yours in mind if I find an economical way to repair the camera, but for now, I don't think it would be of any use to me. :cry
