Alien Bees, AKA Paul C. Buff has announced a new Aline Bee MAX studio light and a few other things at the link above. It's a pretty advanced lighting system...check it out.

Less color shift. 8 f-stop range...adjustable from 1/128 to full power in 1/10 steps. Digital back...reporting all kinds of information. Slot for radio trigger. 250 Watt modeling light. Couple of new colors...torquise, and purple haze. Frosted diffuser dome. Looks like this could be a serious contender to some of the more advanced and costly studio lights...actually from the graphs he has on the above linked website...hmmm...well you be the judge. Just thought I would let the forum know, since a lot of us are portrait photographers.

Cost is $399 for a 320 watt second light and $429 for the 640 watt second light. Hmmm...not much difference between the lower power 320 watt and higher power 640 watt light cost wise...wondering why.

Also not the this info is not on the Alien Bees site. If you go to order the current production version of Alien Bees, you will not be told about the new MAX lights...hmmm...wonder why that is.
Remember, no one may want you to take pictures, but they all want to see them.

There is a link on the front page of the Alien Bees site...
that takes you right to the page you linked to. The link is titled "View Our Upcoming Products".

Now, as far as the price is concerned, no clue there.

    Just FYI.

Mia Culpa...you are right...it is off of the screen on my laptop. I was perusing the site looking at Alien Bees and only observed the left hand column. Thanks for the correction.

Imagine that! A company that announces it's products before launch, and then gives a timeline for delivery! And yes, they're really late on the Cyber Commander… but that didn't seem to bother most people because they knew what was going on behind the scenes.

I'm happy that they're finally bringing the commander to market. Thanks for sharing the link. :D

Well, they only announced the AB Max strobes about 1 month ago.. Nobody had heard mention of them before that - people were expecting arrival of the Zeus system but that's now been bumped indefinitely due to unforeseen engineering problems. There's definitely a down-side to giving a timeline when it doesn't happen...

Still, great news about the new products. :D

15524779-Ti.gif That can kill a company because when you announce a new product before its release people stop buying the previous product, causing an abrupt stop in cash flow. If you don't have enough cash in reserve it can create a very real shortage.

He actually announced it back on April 27th in the Alienbees forums. Here is the dgrin post about it. Paul seemed to be quite excited about the new modifiers.
