Sub-category Batch Processing?

I have two questions relating to batch processing of sub-category assignments.

1. I have some categories with more than 50 galleries and wanted to assign them to sub-categories. I know how to do this one-gallery-at-a-time but is there a way to select a batch of galleries for the sub-category assignment? I tried using the Quick Settings option but even after configuring & saving a quick setting, I was unable to get it to pass-thru the sub-category assignments when applying it to multiple galleries.
2. What happens to my galleries if they've been assigned a sub-category and then I subsequently delete that sub-category without first changing each gallery's customization?

You will have to do each gallery. Try Firefox and the add-on SmugBrowser,
you can right click each gallery and add the sub-cat.

I think the galleries all end up directly under the category if you delete the sub-cat.
