Never heard of these until I came across this giant moth hanging in my spruce tree yesterday. His wingspan measured a tad over 5 inches. These aren't exactly macros but I got close on one shot.
Very colorful body on this thing.

It emerged in spring.
Took to the air.
A sparrow got it not 10 seconds later.

That's an excellent shot of the under body, it's a fluffy little fella.
Geezzz I'd like to see the size of the caterpillar it was before the morph.
