Hello everyone first post here. I am going to be doing some senior pics in a month or so and was looking for an easy lighting technique. I have a Canon 580ex and was wondering what I would need to take it off camera and use it as a strobe for some location work. I was looking at the st-e2 transmitter but wasn't sure if it was what I needed. any help would be great.

thanks

If you are going to be working indoors, the ST-E2 will work quite easily. Even outdoors, it's not that big a deal - you just have to make sure the IR sensor of the 580 is not blinded by the sun.

In addition to the above, you also need to think about how you are going to modify the light. You can bounce it off a wall, shoot through an umbrella, use a LumiQuest mini-softbox, etc.

You will also need something that will life that light off the floor - some sort of light stand.

You can piece it together from there....
