Wish I could go, I really need a tripod and flash. Big weekend for me, though. My wife is graduating from business school and/or giving birth. :D

OK, so the 19th has come and gone but we need a SoCal meet. It's shaping up to be a hot, harsh summer, so outdoor shooting daytime might prove a challenge but we all should try to arrange something.

Hmmm. My camera is not back yet. We have tons of stuff here in Southern CA to shoot. Anyone have anything in their area worth shooting?

I've heard about two wildlife preserves...
one is in Torrance (I'm researching the particulars) and the other is: San Joaquin Wildlife Preserve in Irvine. They may prove interesting.

Thanks. I knew about Madrona but didn't have details. My architect actually was involved in designing the cultural / teaching center and he directed me to:

I understand there are terrific walking tours as well as canoe tours (when water is high enough).

When I lived in Torrance in the late 70's, Madrona Marsh was to be developed, and that raised a big fuss of course. Surprised it lasted another 30 years!

How about something like Huntington Gardens, anyone been there?

Do you mean the Huntington Library? That would be nice and the County Arboretum is nearby as well as Santa Anita Racetrack! :D

Yes, the library. :> They have the world famous paintings there of Pinkie and Blue Boy. NO FLASHES! Plenty of statues and other stuff as well. I was there about 15 years ago and was surprised that I had so much fun.

Then there is the LA Zoo, Hollyweird, Venice Beach,....

the la zoo as a group shoot is a fun thing we all go take shots and have a vote for the best shot headscratch.gif anyway the zoo is a great idea and some folks can come from out of town also . I can talk to the zoo people about early entry if we have enough folks ne_nau.gifheadscratch.gifthumb.gif

Yes the zoo would be fun.

I actually headed over there recently but I found they close at 5PM (last admittance is 4PM), so the early entry thing would be cool.

Well if we do the zoo let's not pick the hottest day of the year. And we should plan it out a couple months so Andy can be here. :D

Well folks can PM me with their ideas and I will make a list of the top places. I am sure there are other places we have not thought of yet. Maybe we can go somewhere where security is heavy and teach them about freedom to photograph. If we post ideas here we'll be all over the place but not going forward. Send me three ideas everyone!!!

I like all the ideas but I'm gonna go with Huntington because we would have the option of moving on from the library/gardens to the Arboretum and we could even end the day at Santa Anita for some track shots, a few beers and a steak dinner.

Santa Anita track shots very cool idea, I also hear many birds hang out there as well.
do you know if we can get in the paddock area ?
Arboretum also cool, been there and that's also full of photo ops!!
