So I think i may have bitten off more than i can chew. I suggested doing the Incline here in Colorado Springs.
http://manitouincline.net/main.htm

Over 1 mile of railroad tie stairs. 2000ft ascent up the mountain with places up to 50% slope! Some of the steps in the steep portion were up to my thighs. I only went to the bail out point to Barr trail which is still over half way up the climb.

This is a HUGE test for me since i blew out my knees fall of 07 and haven't done much hiking since.

Any other climbers out there? I need some help finding hiking shoes, etc.

Here is one from my camera phone where we got off at Barr Trail

L.L. Bean and REI are my shops of personal preference.

Now that the daughter is getting a bit older she has a bit more endurance. We have been getting her out to a few local trails, but nothing too strenuous. We have also been getting her to Shenandoah National Park. Her limit is about 2 miles (out and back).

I am hoping to get her into some longer treks, and some camping. Mom, on the other hand, prefers hotels with pillows. headscratch.gif

You should go to a hiking store for sure. I like REI as well. Sit down and tell them how you felt from your last hike or what hurts. Shoes can be a funky thing. I like Merrells because they are wide and relatively flat footed shoes. New Balance is similiar.

Whatever your choice is be willing to spend that $100 on a pair of shoes. Payless shoes wont cut it. Neither will "in town walking shoes" which lots of stores sell. They will work, but not to the best of your health.
