It's Come Down To the Monitor

I'm getting the Dell Studio XPS 435, and I'm confused about monitors.

According to my notes, its IPS-yes, wide gamut - no.

The problem is, how do you tell which monitor is IPS? I ended up with the s2409w somehow, but don't think this is correct.

Please help.

What Dell monitor should I buy?

I think the 2209wa is the one I'm after?

I guess you really have to do your homework because some of the salesmen really don't understand the difference between a screen for photography and a screen for watching movies.

Thanks

I have both of those monitors.

Get the 2209WA, the S2409w even when calibrated is not for photo work.

These two sites provide info on monitor panels, even the panel part number so you can go looking for a different brand using the same panel.

    http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/panelsearch.htm

    http://www.flatpanelshd.com/panels.php

You can also use these sites to search on S-IPS, H-IPS, or just IPS. OR search by manufacturer. When doing this keep in mind that many of the monitors you turn up are no longer in production.

Your s2409w uses a.... TN panel [24"WS AU Optronics TN Film (M240HW01 V0)]

    The 2209WA uses a... e-IPS panel [
    22"WS LG.Display e-IPS (LM220WE4)]

Thanks, all. I did find those sites - great info - and yes, it is indeed the 2209wa I'm after. Just waiting for Dell to return my call so I can make the change.
    Thanks for your replies.
