Ziggy, how happy I am to 'see' you again!
Very good framing - not usual, but with good colours, shadows and choice of size.
I think that putting you hero out of centre (remember 3/8 - 5/8) could improve the composition. Also I recommend you to use Harry's (Harry, where are you?) method here:
    copy layer
    select 'multiply' blending mode
    set Gaussian blur - 2-4
set opacity to what you need
This will make photo less bright and more saturated (in its own way).
    DOF here is very good.
    Thank you,
    Yuri

Thanks so much for commenting Yuri. This is very much a "work in progress" and I will try the things you suggest.

I've edited a version of this and tried to attach it. Forgive me, but I can't figure out how to insert it here.

Okay - One more try - Here's the image cropped and worked a bit. It strikes me that the boy was lost as it was originally shot. This way the focus is much more on him, and his left arm works with the left hand corner. Frankly, I'd prefer this in black and white - but I prefer almost everything in black and white.

Thanks B. D., it's showing up now in all posts. Hmmm (mulling over the crop and positioning and thinking and typing out loud. Good thing I wasn't chewing gum. :D)

OK, Yuri and you have convinced me on the crop. thumb.gif

... and yes, it looks like I could use the additional saturation as well.

This is where I wound up. Lots of small changes and significant visual changes to the green and yellow tones:
