Order Notification?

I am just dipping my toe into the pro thing, and I have a pro account with Smugmug.

I seem to be getting slightly different notifications, and I cannot make sense of them. I have had 3 orders:

Order 1.
I had an order where I made a tiny profit. It shows on my pro sales page, but I never got an email notification of the order.

Order 2.
One of my galleries is up at the Smug default pricing (using Bay Photo), meaning I don't make any profit. Nonetheless, I did receive a notification that the order occurred. However, when I go back to the my prosales page, it does not show.

Order 3.
Today, someone ordered from a different gallery I have up at Smug default pricing. I have not gotten the notification by email, and it does not show up on my pro sales page.

I take it that no-profit sales do not show on the pro sales page. But what is the rule of thumb on whether I will get an email notification?

Also, will there be a proof delay on galleries where I am charging Smug default pricing?

Thanks in advance.

Proof delay and email notification is only for orders placed where the products are not at smug default prices. At smug default prices, the order is processed with no notification to you, no indication on your pro sales page (since it isn't a pro sale) and no profit.

I figured. I was just confused because I received that one notification on an at-cost print job, but no notification on my profit job.

You should receive an email when:
    • You place an order while logged in. Will not appear under pro sales.
    • You place an order while logged in, on default-priced prints. Will not appear under pro sales.
    • You place an order while logged out, on marked-up prints. Will appear under pro sales.
    • A customer places an order on a marked-up gallery (w/ or w/o proof delay enabled). Will appear under pro sales.
You should not receive an email when:
    • Anyone (exception: you when you're logged in) places an order on a default-priced gallery. Nothing under pro sales.
    • No order occurs. Nothing under pro sales.
I think you already know this… and are rightfully befuddled by the strange pattern (or, rather, a lack of a pattern) in the emails you've received.

    That's interesting.

So if I have an album set to SM pricing but enable proof delay I won't get an email? That seems wrong... headscratch.gif

I understand the order not staying in pro sales since there was no profit, but I would expect PD to take precedence over price.

Just put the prices to $.01 above cost…

That's not really the issue, I just think its wrong that if I (as the photographer) have set a proof delay SmugMug ignores my setting if the pricing is set to base cost.

I agree. I can think of no logical reason not to respect the proof delay setting no matter what price is set. Just because you aren't marking up photos doesn't mean you don't want to make sure your buyers get the best photos and best crops before the prints are made.

That said, you can make your portfolio (default) pricing be to mark everything up by 1 cent and work-around the issue. Of course, when Smugmug changes their print pricing you have to go change your portfolio pricing to match again.
