2 weeks ago there was a recreational softball tournament in my village. Six teams participated. (Our team ended second :D) I was there from 8 am till 6:30 pm to take pictures. (Got a sunburn on my arms, lower legs and neck :bluduh )
I took a total of 930 pictures of which a few had a good timing. I started with the 28-300L IS on the 1D MkIII, but after only a short time switched over to the 70-200L f/2.8 IS

About the timing:

Lots of BOBs there peter! why are some shots in a dirt batters box and some in grass? Different fields?

We have only one field, so they made two out of one. There were always two games being played at the same time.

Here you can see: in the front one game is on and in the far corner another. Very funny if the ball shot through ... suddenly one game would have two balls.

Peter - I applaud your timing. But, from a sample perspective they're really all the same shot (with the exception of the last new one you posted with a great facial expression). Did you happen to shoot any of the action in the field?

Great timing getting ball on bat again and again, but my favorite is the team photos because it has so much personality. Love the kids in the picture.

Hi Peter! Awesome shots! I love them all, but if I had to pick only one, I would have a tie, the last one you posted, and #6 in the first group. In #6, you managed to capture the ball being compressed by the bat! Now that is GREAT timing!
