Nikon doesn't have a battery pack for their flashes?

When we were at N.O.... I had a canon battery back and I used nothing but eneloop rechargeables. I shot all day and night, plus went out and shot a whole race the next weekend without changing one battery.

The drawback on the battery packs is it can cycle TOO FAST and overheat the flash (shooting more than XX amount of shots in sequence), so follow the guidelines on the battery pack to prevent that.

I can't see the downside to using rechargeables.

I was talking about plain ol rechargable AA batteries that you can use in anything.

Yea the SD-9. I just can't see spending $250 for a battery pack.

I just did a bit of research and remembered that I had it backwards. The rechargable batteries recycle faster but that allows the flash to overheat and turn off.

Actually I was under the impression that you were correct, as far as AA's go the lithiums will recycle faster than rechargeable AA's, also, a bunch of after market packs will power the sb900 as well

    Taken from the Adoram website:

The SB-900 offers a quick recycle time of 4.0 seconds (at full power) with four Alkaline AA batteries which drops to a mere 2.3 seconds (at full power) while using four rechargeable NiMH batteries about 25 percent faster than the SB-800 with its fifth battery attachment.

Buy one used. I got lucky and found a new one for my canon for about $125 and it was the best money I spent!

B&H is under $200.. use live cashback for a few bucks off of that too.

Lovely lovely shots - I really like number 7 where you can see the rider's eyes and the shots of the chap in the air with the chequered flag. Every shot is brilliantly crisp and has vibrant colour - even the black and white one with the colours on the chap's hat.clap.gif

I envy you the light and the ability to use flash - on a dark, misty Saturday winter's night taking rugby shots can be very hard!

I use the Sanyo Eneloop LI rechargables in my SB-900's. Truly incredible battery. 2,000Ah each. I think I got 12 for less than $30. Best money I've ever spent on batteries.

    Tom.

    Tom.

I decided to give rechargables a try. I bought 12 Energizer 2450 ah batteries last night. I have MX racr tonight to shoot. So, this will be a good test.
