Nicely done! Looks like you were quite close in a few!? What kind of lens would you use for this? Only seen it on tv - but i would not want to be anywhere near those things when the riders let go!!!!!

Yea, I'm way too close. Normally stand right outside of the course boundary. I usually have at least one or two close calls, where I have to scramble. Plus the hill is very steep and torn up, so you don't always have good footing. Easy to fall, while trying to run backwards. I have tried standing further back, but the problem becomes getting foreground trash in the photo. I can usually tell if the guy is under control or not, but bikes can go shooting off in any direction, in a split second. And the fast guys are doing the hill in under 5 seconds, so they are moving fast. It's not for the faint of heart.
I shoot with a combination of a 2.8 IS 70-200L which gives me some room, or a 2.8 28-55mm for tighter shots close to the top.
