Needing a little creative jumpstart

Hey all! I'm hoping I can tap into everyone's fantastic creative sides here. I have a wedding to shoot next Saturday, and in my final consult with the bride and groom this week, I learned that they are forgoing the traditional cake and having a doughnut bar instead. I've seen many variations on dessert, but this is a first for me. :scratch I'd like to really capture this unique part of their celebration, but I'm hitting the ol' creative wall. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

    Macro
Some closeups with low depth of field might work well. I do that for many of the details - one flower in focus and one not...one donut and the rest as bokeh. Maybe set them up with a donut as the wedding ring if it suits their personality.

Hard to offer suggestions not knowing how the donuts will be set up. Kathy has some good suggestions though, if the donuts are stacked up you might try and get above them and shoot straight down on them. check out Jasmine Stars Blog she took some really cool pics of the mini cupcakes at the OC SMUG meeting last week, they might give you some inspiration.

Thanks, Jeff. I couldn't really get a good description from the bride...but I sort of get the impression they will be stacked pyramid-like. I've never seen a doughnut bar before!! It should be interesting, and at the very least, provide some interesting wedding war stories. :D (I can see it now, me...on a step stool or chair...attempting a shot, and crashing into the tower o' dough. Please keep your fingers crossed this doesn't occur.)

    Thanks for the suggestions, guys.

i'm sure you figure it out when you are there. i like it when couples take different approach at things - otherwise everything's the same ol' (i.e. boring). i like the challenge. last year one of my couples had 30+ feet table with different pies. (i love pies, i take it over cake any time). the night ended in a small (managed) pie fight (2 bridesmaids pied the groom). awesome!

i'd personally try for some ring shots paired with donuts!

I like the ring shot idea with the doughnuts... Another couple cool ideas might be with the flower stems coming out of the doughnuts? Or possibly the heels of the bride's shoes in the hole of the doughnut (assuming these are ring doughnuts we are talking about). I dunno, should be interesting though. Post your results!

Doughnut is cake....albeit a round cake with a hole.....they can still feed each other....they can still smash it into each others face........just look at it as cake......and actually if they are not going to have the knife to cut since not a traditional cake ....you supply a huuge one from a party store , the size of a................. machete................ if they have the really nice pudding filled ones use them for them to feed each other and instead of biting have it squirted into each others mouth,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,HAVE FUN

Could you shoot through the hole in one somehow? Might not be good as an "only" shot, but perhaps as an adjunct to some others. Actually, how about a ring in front of a donut, the centers lined up? Tricky to do, but could be very cool with the right DOF... ::mind wanders::

Ya'll are awesome, and Art is making me laugh at the idea of the machete. I might just swing by the dollar store and see if they have any toys that might do the trick. ;) Thanks for all the ideas! I love the ring shot and the shooting through the hole!
