Very nice images Ira, funny looking pose from this bird. They have that cartoon character look, when the crest is up.

    Ira,

Green Herons have kind of become my 'favorite' heron, recognizing of course that the GBH is actually a bowdown.gif god. In NJ, you really have to work to find Green Herons and Night Herons and then the Green Herons are very difficult to get good shots of because they are so skitish. You should have heard the ruckess yesterday when I got too close to the nest.

Last year I had one mating pair on my pond that had two broods of 1 and 3. This year I have (I think) 6 adults. headscratch.gif Do you know if they mate after 1 year or when?

Very very nice pics. Your coloration is different than ours. The backs on mine seem darker, more colorful, and the white 'checking' effect is much more pronounced. A regional / diet/ environmental difference?

This pic of the threee stooges cannot begin to express what a riot they were to watch. Unfortunately it is cropped down to 1 Mpix.
