Eagle Flight School

Found some eagles this weekend. Had challenging lighting conditions most of the weekend but got to see some pretty cool fishing action by nesting pairs (they coordinate efforts). Just got home a couple hours ago. Here's a couple quick ones...

I have no idea what this one was doing but it obligingly hovered right over our boat. The only thing I can imagine is that it was going to land and then was suprised to see us aboard. We were under a canopy in the cockpit :dunno

Serious high G turn (they always hold their heads level when they turn).

Yepper. Cool shots Dan. I kind of prefer poor light for the bald eagle. Much more difficult to blow the head yet get detail in the dark featehrs. thumb.gif

Thanks for the comments, guys. Mike, I agree it's easier to get eagles with nice flat lighting on an overcast day. This weekend we had constantly changing lighting due to variable cloud cover. Litterally minute to minute conditions would change from clear sun to nice bright filtered light to heavy cloud cover with drizzling rain. Required constant attention to exposure settings. Also resulted in quite a few blown shots :cry

Thanks for commenting. I like that second shot too. But if the shutter had fired just a tad later would have been optimum to get a better shot of the wings from below. This guy was moving so fast that the next frame (firing at 6fps) has him already leveling back out ne_nau.gif

Thanks for the comments, everyone. I've got a few more keepers from the weekend but didn't have time to process before I left town for the week on business. Hopefully I'll get time to work up some more in the next couple of days :D

Thanks, Gale and Ric. I really like the bird's position in the second shot. Better lighting conditions and/or a background would have been nice. I'm just happy if I keep them in the frame when they're maneuvering like that ne_nau.gif

Both shots are simply AMAZING!!! There is no way I can pick a favorite one from this series, cause they're both my favorite! Can't wait to see more!

Thanks, guys. Harry, that first shot is cropped horizontal but full frame vertically. Plus it was shot at 240mm on my 200-400VR. Very accomadating bird :D
