Buyers Remorse?

I bought a Gitzo Traveler (1550 i think) because of it's incredibly small size. THe guy told me it will hold my 70-200 or 100-400 just fine.

I don't know now if I want to keep it. I have a large manfrotto tripod but I only use it at the occasional wedding. Mostly because it is so heavy and large. I try to avoid even using it at a wedding.

Does anyone here have this small traveler tripod? Did you start using the tripod more or less after buying it?

Thank You,
John

    Thank You,

My feeling is if you're even asking, you probably aren't going to use it much, if at all. There are those who use tripods religiously, and there are those who don't use them at all. Of course it depends on what you are shooting. But if you are into wedding photography, I doubt you will use it. Landscape is a entirely different story! I bought the lightest I could afford and have yet to use it! It's still too much gear for me to haul around with lenses, etc. I don't have much patience for setting things up either! So buyer's remorse? Yep! I don't have this particular tripod, but I should seriously think about selling the one I do have! rolleyes1.gif

I have a fairly monstrous Gitzo GT3530 LSV (extended length), along with a RRS BH-55, L brackets for all my camera bodies, plus telephoto lens plates. For the kind of shooting I do, I couldn't live without it. I use for star trails, moon shots, HDRs, product photography, landscapes, lens testing, etc, etc. Really, I don't go anywhere without it. When I do hike with my equipment, I usually end up carrying a ton of stuff anyhow. What's a few more pounds? mwink.gif

For a really strenuous day hike or for backpacking I probably wouldn't take SLR equipment at all. I'd probably bring a good P&S and maybe something like a Gorilla Pod.

    Cheers,

I have a Bogan 3020 (with 3030 head) that I swear has taken root and grown to the floor that it's resting on. Are we actually supposed to use tripods in this day & age of matrix balanced flash and "fast" lenses?.:D.

Lenses are no faster now than they were when I started in film photography.....and yes you are supposed to use them:D...........
I sill carry a tripod and monopod at the same time on my LowePro Pro Trekker backpack.....if I down size to my 2 - 75AW's then the pods are in place on the rear floor of my Trooper with carrying straps attached.......

Even with my Konica Minolta 7D's that have in body stabilization I used the pods and never turned off the IS.......now that I am quickly migrating over to Nikon and have a VR lens I will try podding with VR turned on and off for same scene.............if it is one of those things I will constantly have to keep turning on or off for the pods then I will turn it off and use the pods...........

Then again I still use hand held ambient/flash incident light meters also.......currently using a Sekonic L-558.....fantastic meter............learned to never trust an in camera refelcted meter on my very first portrait shoot........when I ahd to re-shoot I had a hand held meter and never looked back......................
