Does anyone operate an actual gallery where they show and sell their images? I'm looking to possibly open one in the Buffalo, NY area but I'm wondering if the market would support one, or if I should subliment the gallery but selling other photographic related products as well.

I have a photography studio but
I have a portrait studio but I have a number of images worth framing and printing. I also want to have people walk in to meet me during "gallery hours". I am in the process of framing and printing a number of fine art prints. I think they will sell when people see them. The gallery hours ought to be helpful since I will be marketing them to meet the photogrpaher also.

I am in the process of putting the finishing touches on a new gallery, and will let you know how it works out. I moved my studio a couple months ago to a very large facility, and the layout lended itself to one. I have a large sports minded following, that purchases hockey images from me on a regular basis, both online, and at WHL venues. I have always wanted to do some special make up prints, collages, and large lobby sized images, and have designed the space to accomadate that. I am having an "opening"" in a month, with lots of corporate buyers present, so, I am keeping my fingures crossed. I will post up a few pics of the place when it is done with images up, and better yet, let ya know if anything sells.

    Gallery selling
One of the avenues I do in my photography is my own custom artwork. I photography nature in general and frame the prints and sell through a couple local galleries. Seeing the joy and success these galleries have had in the art community in the area, I have been bitten by the bug about opening my own gallery.

My issue is, I live on an Island where you have to pay to come over the bridge from the mainland. We are a artist community, but I'm not sure the clientel from the Island would be good enough to support such a business. My thought on the gallery would be to sell my work plus some fellow artists work, and use it to promote my other phtography services.

In town we do however have a very popular hotel. The hotel has just a small candy counter type store for the guest needs. Do you think a photographic gallery in the lobby of this hotel would be something good for both my business and the hotel in general, or would it be out of place and something that would be a waste of my money and time?
