In early May I spent a week on Fuerteventura, one of the Canary Islands off west African coast. It proved to be a great landscape photographer's destination! :clap It's very dry and arid, but stone, rock and sand can be very picturesque.

The climate is mild and the wind blows all the time (and I mean all the time!), making it also an ideal vacation spot for windsurfers. The Atlantic was a bit on the cool side so we didn't spend too much time swimming in it, but its turquoise waters were a joy to photograph.

Here is a selection of photos I managed to take in one week. There are more photos with descriptions on my website for those who might be interested.

and a good job you did. Very nice photos and a good look into the "real" parts of the island not just the tourist hotels.

clap.gifFantastic, Ana! What a beautiful place, indeed, and I particularly like the wrinkled hills.

I also really love the last shot. Talk about great timing! :D

Wow, never thought the Canaries would be so mountainous, great shots. #7, #10, #13 and 15 stand out in my mind. Beaches there look pristine, and the dunes are cool also. Looks like a great place to shoot due to the varying terrain and the fact every type of good landscape subject is all on one little island. What is going on in #1 (as in what is the foreground)?

Thanks, Andy! Yes, the compactness of the island and its diversity are a great advantage for a photographer.
#1 shows salt evaporation ponds at Las Salinas del Carmen.
